One World Under Doom #8

‘One World Under Doom’ #8 it’s Doom vs. EVERY Hero

One World Under Doom #8 is exactly what it promises: a no-holds-barred slugfest where Doctor Doom again takes on literally every hero on Earth: the Avengers, the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, and everyone in between. Writers Ryan North and R.B. Silva are definitely leaning into the “spectacle” of it all, delivering a penultimate issue that’s all about massive, dazzling comic book action.

If you’ve been following this series, you know it’s been one long, glorious Doom power fantasy, and Issue #8 keeps that ball rolling. The premise is simple: can anyone actually beat the guy? So far, the answer has been a resounding “nope.” The heroes are throwing everything they have at him, but every attack is met with a defense or, even better, a counter-attack that’s ten times stronger. Personally, I love the sheer, over-the-top energy of it.

Marvel

What truly sells this whole event is the art team, and they are absolutely nailing the assignment here. R.B. Silva on pencils and Adriano Curiel on colors are the real stars. The battle is a constant rush of visual energy, a feast of colors and spectacular effects.

A stand-out scene happens when Doom is confronted in the Astral Plane by Valeria Richards. As she teleports to him, the visual is godly: Doom is literally bathed in a sun-yellow aura, radiating pure magic and power. It’s an incredibly cool and beautiful panel.

Then there’s the action. When The Thing finally connects with a solid hit (a literal hammer blow), the impact is so great that the panels actually blur. That’s a triple-effort win for the art, colors, and the fantastic lettering by Travis Lanham, who sprinkles in great, well-placed onomatopoeias that really sell the action. The whole issue is one giant “wow factor.”

Marvel

If I had to summarize this entire event in one word, it would be spectacle. Ten-year-old me would have plastered these pages on my wall, and adult me is definitely enjoying the ride. The only real issue is that after eight issues of non-stop escalation, the spectacular nature of it all starts to feel like… too much. We’ve seen Doom successfully defend against everything the heroes have thrown at him. As such, it feels like there’s no way to end this organically: the only outcome left is either a giant deus ex machina or Doom willingly giving up his power (a plot thread Valeria is trying to plant).

However, as the penultimate issue, One World Under Doom #8 does a brilliant job of setting the board for a thrilling, potentially earth-shattering conclusion. You might be tired of the sheer scale, but you absolutely won’t want to miss how this beautiful, brutal brawl finally wraps up.
