Eddie Brock’s hunt for a serial killer takes a perilous turn in Carnage #3, by Soule and Saiz, putting him and his symbiote on a collision course with the villain Bushwacker. As Carnage thirsts for more mayhem, Eddie is challenged to embody the sheer brutality the symbiote needs. Faced with such a deadly opponent, can Eddie prove he’s the ultimate host for destruction? Let’s find out!
This issue dives straight into the grim aftermath of Carnage vs. Bushwacker round 1, with Eddie furious amidst the chaos and a wickedly menacing Bushwacker, drawn perfectly by Saiz, surveying the scene. Round two erupts with fantastic, dynamic action, showcasing the priceless, messed-up Eddie/Carnage dynamic: “Kill him!” / “I will if you shut up!”. When Bushwacker runs out of ammo, he bizarrely powers up by eating bullets and grenades, emerging supercharged but still no match for Carnage, who delivers a spectacularly bloody takedown. The issue concludes with another intense Eddie/Carnage confrontation, revealing a shocking secret from issue #1 that gives the symbiote the ultimate leverage.

This Carnage run serves up a fantastic recipe for an action-packed comic. While it touches upon deeper themes, such as different levels of evil or whether evil can be used for good, which are interesting points to ponder, it doesn’t attempt to be overly philosophical. At its core, this book is about delivering epic action, and on that front, it succeeds.
The banter between Carnage and Eddie continues to be a highlight. Their dynamic often resembles that of an old married couple with terrible communication skills, leading to genuinely funny moments. However, it’s also clear they are not truly of one mind or in sync. This lack of unity means Eddie’s life is constantly on the line if he makes a mistake, considerably raising the stakes and tension.
Artistically, Saiz is operating at peak performance in this book. You need only look at his depiction of “BIG” Bushwacker, drawn with a terrifying face only a mother could love, to see his skill. Saiz’s art remains the biggest draw; the sheer terror is palpable on Bushwacker’s face as Carnage approaches, and that final attack sequence? Awesome – gruesome, and gory, all thanks to Saiz’s stellar work. Beyond Bushwacker, Carnage himself looks consistently amazing throughout this run. Saiz renders him appropriately menacing, while colorist Matt Hollingworth effectively uses dark shades, making the red symbiote visually pop and constantly drawing the reader’s eye.

VC’s Joe Sabino’s lettering is equally strong, employing simple yet effective techniques like enlarging the font to convey Bishwacher’s growing scale. Furthermore, Sabino’s crisp lettering clearly distinguishes dialogue between Carnage and Eddie, helping to elevate the comic.
Eddie Brock: Carnage #3 delivers a thrillingly brutal and action-packed showdown between Eddie/Carnage and a menacing Bushwacker, featuring stunningly gory artwork by Saiz, vibrant coloring, and entertaining character banter. It successfully prioritizes epic action and concludes on a tense cliffhanger. If you like fast-paced, action-packed packed and gory comics, Carnage is a must buy.
