Marvel Comics has announced that the definitive Doctor Doom saga will arrive this May in the form of a ten-issue maxi-series titled Doomquest. This ambitious project reunites the legendary Latverian monarch with writer Ryan North, who currently scripts the Fantastic Four, and features interior artwork by the celebrated Francesco Mobili. Following the character’s recent dominance in One World Under Doom, this new standalone story explores the heights of Victor Von Doom’s genius and the depths of his rivalry with Reed Richards as he travels through the fabric of time to secure a glorious future for Latveria.

What is the plot of Marvel’s Doomquest?

The narrative catalyst for this odyssey involves a direct confrontation between the scientific ego of Victor Von Doom and the altruism of the Fantastic Four. When Reed Richards unveils a retirement project aimed at the “total optimization of history”—a plan to retroactively eliminate war and conflict—Doom perceives this as an intolerable attempt to reshape reality in Richards’ image. In an act of characteristic defiance, Doom resolves to perfect history himself before his rival can act. This intervention spirals into a massive conflict that spans the entirety of time and space, forcing Doom into battles that test his status as a master of both science and sorcery.

Who are the creators behind the Doomquest limited series?

The series is spearheaded by Ryan North, whose previous work in One World Under Doom established a complex modern foundation for the character. Joining him is artist Francesco Mobili, known for his atmospheric work on Daredevil. The visual presentation of the debut issue is further elevated by a primary cover from Alex Ross, alongside a series of variants including a notable homage to the classic Iron Man (1968) #149 by Luciano Vecchio.

On returning to the character after ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM, North said, “I thought we’d left Doom in a really interesting place with the events of ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM, and I was looking forward to seeing what others do with him now – and I still am! But when the chance came up to do an evergreen Doom story – meaning one set not in the immediate present but instead in the not-too-distant past, unshackled from his current status quo – it was really alluring, especially when I was told I could go as big and as crazy as I wanted. In short, this is the fun one: Doom at his absolute Doomiest as he careens his way through a quest through time, rewriting history in his image – all to ennoble and exalt his beloved Latveria. It’s fun, it’s bombastic, and I can promise some absolute banger Doom moments (and speeches!) in it.”

“I’m super excited to be part of this great new project!” Mobili added. “It has been a long time since I last worked as an interior artist for a Marvel book, and I can’t imagine a better way to come back! Doctor Doom is one of the greatest villains in comic book history, and Ryan North is one of the most brilliant writers we have in the industry right now. This mix makes it super fun to draw, page by page, and I’m loving everything about Ryan’s writing here. I can’t ask for more, and I can’t wait for you to see what we’re cooking up!”

When is the Doomquest #1 release date?

Doomquest #1 is scheduled to go on sale May 27, 2026. However, readers can obtain an early preview of the series on May 2, 2026, during Comics Giveaway Day by picking up Armageddon/X-Men #1 CGD 2026 at participating local comic shops. This issue will feature a wide array of variant covers by artists such as Nic Klein, John Romita Jr., and a special foil variant by Ryan Stegman.
