The first half of Daredevil: Born Again has carefully set up numerous plot threads, and it’s thrilling to see them start to unravel. In episode 7, Matt Murdock struggles to keep his personal and vigilante lives separate as they violently collide—a battle we know he’s destined to lose. Meanwhile, Wilson Fisk faces a similar merging of his roles as both a crime lord and a politician, but rather than seeing it as a burden, he seizes it as an opportunity. At the heart of it all is the serial killer artist, Muse, whose actions send shockwaves through this corner of the MCU.
At the start of the episode, Murdock is re-energized and feels alive after donning the Daredevil suit again. However, his moment of romance with Heather Glenn (Margarita Levieva) takes a sharp turn when she confronts him about his erratic behavior. She’s clearly aware that he’s keeping secrets—perhaps even suspecting that he’s Daredevil. It’s compelling to watch her cut through his usual facade, using her therapist’s insight to expose his unhealthy approach to dealing with trauma.
Daredevil may have just rescued an innocent person, but judging by everyone’s reactions, you’d think he did the opposite. Detective Cherry (Clark Johnson) is furious at Murdock for upending his life by stepping back into the Daredevil role. However, their confrontation lacks emotional weight, mainly because Cherry’s character hasn’t been developed beyond the surface level since his introduction. A flashback or a meaningful monologue about his past would go a long way in making him feel more fleshed out.
Mayor Fisk finds himself in a challenging situation because of Muse, but he expertly turns it to his advantage. Even though his task force fails to capture Muse before Daredevil does, he still seizes the moment to claim victory and further his agenda against masked vigilantes. Early in the episode, there’s almost a comedic irony in watching Fisk acknowledge how disastrous it would be for him if Daredevil were the one to stop Muse—especially since Daredevil was the one who dismantled his criminal empire in the first place. Now, Fisk views New York City as his new empire, pulling every sinister string to ensure Daredevil can’t undermine him again. His calculated rise to political power feels unsettlingly realistic, as if taken straight from real-world events.
In Fisk’s personal life, the storyline involving Vanessa and gangster Luca finally comes to a violent end. The idea that Vanessa would betray her husband never felt convincing, making this subplot somewhat hollow. It seemed like Fisk’s struggle to escape his criminal past would lead to something more significant, but in the end, it doesn’t quite deliver on that promise. That said, the final scene—where Luca attempts, and fails, to assassinate Fisk over dinner—at least brings some classic mafia-movie tension to the mix.

The highlight of this episode is the brutal showdown between Daredevil and Muse. While it’s a bit hard to believe that someone with only three months of martial arts training—even under a Taekwondo master—could hold his own against Daredevil, it at least serves as an excellent excuse for an intense, high-energy fight that pushes Matt to his limits. Though the reveal of Muse’s identity isn’t exactly a shocking twist, the episode does an excellent job of making him as eerie and unnerving as possible. This makes Daredevil’s last-second intervention even more satisfying. The hook-through-the-shoulder move was an incredible, jaw-dropping moment.
Overall, Daredevil is back on the hunt for a dangerous serial killer, and it’s as thrilling as ever. Episode seven of Daredevil: Born Again explores some compelling themes as Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk’s separate worlds start to collide in intense and unexpected ways. At this point, there’s no turning back for either of them. With just two episodes left in the season, this episode does an excellent job of building momentum, delivering gripping superhero drama, and setting the stage for an explosive finale.
