This is “terrible” news for DC fans, and by that, we mean it’s absolutely fantastic. DC has officially pulled back the curtain on Bizarro: Year None, a new four-issue limited series that aims to redefine the origins of the Man of Steel’s most lovable, backwards doppelgänger.

The project brings together a powerhouse creative team, featuring writers Kevin Smith (Green Arrow) and Eric Carrasco (Supergirl), paired with the distinct, hyper-detailed art style of Nick Pitarra (The Manhattan Projects). Together, they are set to deliver what DC calls the “definitive, indefinitive” origin of the backward icon.

True to character, the announcement came with a ringing “endorsement” from the protagonist himself:

“Me am NOT excited for new comic!” said Bizarro. “Bizarro: Year None am worst thing to happen!”

A Cosmic “Daily Planet” Adventure

Unlike a standard Superman story, Year None shifts the perspective to two of Clark Kent’s closest associates: Jimmy Olsen and Perry White. The duo departs the Daily Planet for a journey into deep space, only to stumble upon a dimension that serves as an uncanny, warped mirror of Metropolis.

In this strange world, the Daily Planet isn’t just a newspaper; it’s an object of religious devotion. As Jimmy and Perry peel back the layers of this surreal society, they must face the entity responsible for it. The series poses the question: is this being a misguided fan, a source of total chaos, or someone else entirely?

Art and Tone

The series promises a unique mix of Smith and Carrasco’s sharp humor and high-concept sci-fi, all grounded by Pitarra’s “unsettling” yet “familiar” visual world-building. DC describes the book as a must-read contradiction:

“Don’t be a square: this is the worst comic you’ll ever love. Kevin Smith, Eric Carrasco, and Nick Pitarra tell the indefinitive origin of Superman’s bestest enemy ever!”

Bizarro: Year None #1 hits shelves on April 1, 2026 (fittingly, April Fool’s Day).

  • Format: 32-page monthly limited series (4 issues).
  • Price: $4.99 US for the main cover.
  • Variants: Includes covers by Frank Quitely, Fernando Pasarin, and Ibrahim Moustafa ($5.99), plus a special foil variant by Pitarra ($7.99).
