Marvel just announced a heavy-hitter for the summer. Spider-Man: Long Way Home is a five-issue limited series arriving this June, and it looks like a total bloodbath. Jonathan Hickman and Adam Kubert are the architects behind this one. They’re taking Peter Parker, Frank Castle, and Bruce Banner and throwing them into a meat grinder in the South American jungle. It’s a high-stakes hunt for a Cosmic Cube that’s fallen into the hands of A.I.M., and nobody’s playing nice.

What is the plot of Spider-Man: Long Way Home?

The story drops us into a world that feels a bit different than the one we know. It’s an era before the Punisher was a household name. The Hulk is still just a ghost story people whisper about. In the middle of this, A.I.M. finishes their work on a Cosmic Cube. Spider-Man, Punisher, and Hulk all converge on the same coordinates with the same goal: keep that reality-warping weapon away from everyone else. That includes each other.

Expect a three-way free-for-all. Hickman’s known for big ideas, but this feels like a focused, visceral character study wrapped in a disaster movie. Since it’s a limited series, the gloves are coming off. We saw how Hickman handled Wolverine: Revenge with Greg Capullo, and this seems to share that “no mercy” DNA. It’s an evergreen story, so you don’t need a PhD in Marvel history to jump in.

Is Spider-Man: Long Way Home in the main Marvel continuity?

Marvel’s framing this as a standalone saga. It exists outside the tangled web of the main 616 universe. That gives the creative team freedom to do things they’d never get away with in the monthly books. You won’t have to worry about what’s happening in the current Amazing Spider-Man run to enjoy this. It’s just pure, unrestrained storytelling from two of the best in the business.

The creators seem pretty hyped about the project.

“I’m so happy to be working with Adam Kubert again and even happier that we’re getting to work on SPIDER-MAN: LONG WAY HOME,” Hickman shared. “Absolutely no one is going to see this one coming.”

Kubert was just as enthusiastic about the lineup. “Jordan [D. White] barely got the words out before I yelled ‘Yes!’ to SPIDER-MAN: LONG WAY HOME,” Kubert said. “A five-issue Hickman saga with Spidey, Hulk, and Punisher? Total no-brainer. With Frank Martin making the mayhem pop! Just Make Mine Marvel!”

When does Spider-Man: Long Way Home #1 release?

Mark your calendars for June 17. That’s when the first issue hits the shelves at your local comic shop. Adam Kubert is handling both the interior art and the main cover.

If you’re a collector, keep an eye out for the foil variant cover by Dave Johnson. With Frank Martin on colors, the action’s going to look incredible on the page. It’s shaping up to be the grittiest Spidey tale we’ve seen in years.
