Episode 6 of Peacemaker, aptly titled Ignorance Is Chris, fully delivers on James Gunn and the cast’s promise that this season would eventually go off the rails. Gunn’s vision for a re-imagined DC universe has always hinted at bold connections across film, television, and beyond, and this episode makes good on that promise. A major DC character finally steps into the spotlight on the small screen, signaling just how far-reaching and ambitious Peacemaker Season 2 has become.
The episode kicks off with Vigilante, Adebayo, Economos, and Harcourt searching for a way to reach Peacemaker, which leads them to Vigilante’s house. He warns the group about his eccentric mother, though calling her quirky is a massive understatement. To cover up his vigilante lifestyle, he once convinced her that Harcourt was his girlfriend, only to explain their “breakup” by saying she was too slutty. The awkward comedy only ramps up when the group explores Vigilante’s basement hideout, crammed with everything he has collected from drug busts and shady encounters. Freddie Stroma brings sharp humor to the moment, especially when he points out the huge stacks of dirty cash lying around. Naturally, while his back is turned, the others slip bundles into their own pockets, creating one of the episode’s funniest sequences.
Adebayo successfully opens the portal, allowing the group to step into a strange multi-dimensional space filled with Peacemaker’s spare helmets. Adrian quickly realizes that the access code is tied to Peacemaker’s father, which guides them into the reality Peacemaker has chosen as his permanent refuge. Things start to unravel when Keith shows up at the house, and Harcourt makes the choice to leave with him for ARGUS, leaving the others exposed to danger. At the same time, Adrian becomes fixated on locating his alternate self. His search not only leads him to his counterpart but also to a shocking revelation: his father still exists in this universe. Then Vigilante encounters his double and they have funny banter until the double finally reveals the unsettling truth: in this world, Peacemaker is destined to be his greatest enemy.
On the ride to ARGUS, Harcourt begins to sense that something feels off about this universe, hinting at the very theories fans have been debating all along. Once they arrive, things take a turn when a drug dog singles her out, detecting the traces of cocaine that clung to her coat after the explosion in Vigilante’s basement during the portal mishap. Just as she is being cleared, Chris finally appears. The reunion leads to a tender exchange, where Chris admits his need to remain in this place while also making a vulnerable attempt to draw out Harcourt’s real feelings for him. An amazing scene that shows Jennifer Holland’s acting talent in all its glory.
Meanwhile, on Earth, Rick Flagg realizes that Economos and Harcourt are nowhere to be found, prompting him to make a direct trip to Belle Reve. It is here that the series delivers its first major cameo linking the wider universe, with Nicholas Hoult making his debut as Lex Luthor. The meeting between Flagg and Luthor sets the stage for intriguing possibilities, as the two strike a deal that hints at bigger plans.
Back on the alternate Earth, Harcourt admits that something feels off while Adebayo steps out for a walk, leaving Economos by himself at Peacemaker’s home. His quiet moment is shattered when Peacemaker’s father returns and violently stabs him, forcing him to confess everything, including the fact that this Earth’s Peacemaker is already dead. Meanwhile, as Adebayo wanders outside, chaos erupts as multiple people, including Keith, begin chasing her, because she is black…? At the same time, Chris remains at ARGUS, where he makes a chilling discovery: the American flag bears a Nazi symbol in place of the stars!
Peacemaker episode 6 rises to the occasion, packing in wild energy, heartfelt emotion, and plenty of surprises. The series sets the stage for an explosive and fast-moving conclusion, making it clear that season 2 is racing toward a finale that promises to be both thrilling and unforgettable.
