Peacemaker season 2 has officially hit its midpoint with explosive momentum. The show has been carefully weaving together two major storylines: Peacemaker (John Cena) growing increasingly fascinated with a parallel dimension, and ARGUS zeroing in on him as their newest target. Earlier episodes have alternated between advancing one plot and then the other, but this week’s chapter brings them crashing together.
The story kicks off with a flashback, this time revealing how Chris and his family first came into possession of the mysterious portal-door. During a seemingly ordinary family trip to hunt imps in the woods, they stumbled across it. Nothing derails an afternoon of imp hunting quite like finding a gateway to other universes.
In the present, ARGUS is closing in on Peacemaker’s home, but the team itself is anything but unified. Economos finds himself stuck in the van under the watch of Bordeaux (Sol Rodríguez), while tensions simmer among the rest of the group. Fleury (Tim Meadows) is still holding a grudge against Economos for concealing details about Eagly. Economos, in turn, has little faith in St. Wild (Michael Rooker), who has been brought in specifically to eliminate the bird. On top of that, Judomaster (Nhut Le) clashes with Economos, their hostility fueled by the fact that Economos nearly killed him the last time they crossed paths. The squabbling offers a fascinating glimpse into ARGUS’s fractured dynamics, but more importantly, it gives Economos the cover he needs to slip a secret warning to Peacemaker.
He manages to catch Economos’ warning just in time, grabbing the alien device from the earlier flashback and coaxing Eagly out of the house moments before ARGUS storms in. His escape, however, is cut short when Judomaster trails him into the woods, setting the stage for a fierce rematch. With no love lost after their brutal encounters in Season 1, the two waste no time trading blows. Chris struggles to juggle the alien gadget while defending himself, and Judomaster quickly gains the upper hand. In a tense moment, Judomaster nearly finishes him off by choking him. Still, a stumble sends Peacemaker crashing down on top of his opponent, knocking the smaller fighter unconscious and giving him a narrow chance to slip away.
Meanwhile, when Economos is called in to hack the door, he lashes out at Bordeaux and even spits on Fleury, a startling act for someone not known for defiance. Despite his resistance, he is eventually persuaded to break the code. Retrieving his equipment from the van gives him the chance to secretly contact Chris, who urges him to delay the process.
Responding to Peacemaker’s call for help, Adebayo retrieves him from the woods and assists in moving the dimensional portal before ARGUS can track it down. With the alien device salvaged from Peacemaker’s home, the two head to his grandfather’s hunting cabin, where they reset the portal. After Peacemaker finally confesses to Adebayo about the parallel dimension he visited, revealing his alternate self’s actions, his involvement with Auggie and Keith, and his relationship with that dimension’s Emilia Harcourt, showing his noble motives despite the dark temptations.
After her failure, Bordeaux delivers the news to Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo), who quickly shifts tactics. He approaches Harcourt, revealing a prior connection that feels more plausible after Episode 3 exposed her secret relationship with Rick Flag Jr. (Joel Kinnaman) before his death. Their conversation confirms her suspicion that Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) deliberately blocked her from continuing in intelligence work. Still, Flag dangles a way back; if she agrees to hand over Peacemaker. Harcourt makes her disapproval clear, yet reluctantly sets up a meeting with Chris. With Economos having already taken a stand, her wavering loyalty introduces the possibility of yet another betrayal.
At the end of the hour, episode 4 places greater emphasis on character over spectacle, using Harcourt’s decision to turn Peacemaker in as a pivotal moment that underscores the season’s more reflective tone. While the installment is lighter on action than previous entries, it builds essential momentum for the episodes ahead by exploring Peacemaker’s inner conflict and the contrasting lives offered by the two universes he straddles.
