The X-Men are officially stepping into the “Shadows of Tomorrow”! New York Comic Con (NYCC) 2025 was the stage for Marvel Comics to drop massive details on the next era of X-Men storytelling, kicking off in January 2026.
This new status quo follows the events of “Age of Revelation,” which propelled the Marvel Universe a decade into the future. Now, armed with vital knowledge about a potential dark timeline, the X-Men are ready to take bold action, fortify their alliances, and empower the next generation of mutant heroes to secure their future.
The Creative Powerhouse Behind the Mutants
The Marvel Comics: X-Men Panel was packed with top-tier talent, including VP Executive Editor Tom Brevoort, Editor in Chief C.B. Cebulski, and fan-favorite writers like Jed MacKay, Benjamin Percy, Ashley Allen, and Eve L. Ewing, alongside artists like Ryan Stegman. They detailed how the X-Men will work to prevent their dream from being consumed by the “Shadows of Tomorrow.”
Returning Ongoing X-Men Series
Several flagship titles will continue their run into this new era:
- UNCANNY X-MEN (2024) by Gail Simone and David Marquez continues with a festive event interrupted by a request from the “daughter of darkness,” Mutina, in issue #22.
- WOLVERINE (2024) from Saladin Ahmed and Martín Cóccolo is back! Issue #14 features Logan on a mission to save the Morlocks that puts him directly in the path of the mercenary Silver Sable.
- X-MEN (2024) by Jed MacKay and featuring art by superstar Tony Daniel in the first two issues, wraps up the “Age of Revelation” with an epilogue in #23 before the gene-terrorist group 3K returns revitalized in #24.
Exciting Series Evolutions
Two popular solo series are shifting gears for the “Shadows of Tomorrow” era:
- MAGIK’s latest series evolves into MAGIK & COLOSSUS #1, with writer Ashley Allen and artist Germán Peralta reuniting. The mutant siblings head back to their home country only to face ancient monsters from Russian folklore!
- STORM‘s journey continues in STORM: EARTH’S MIGHTIEST MUTANT #1 by Murewa Ayodele and Federica Mancin. The series promises to show Ororo Munroe as the planet’s protector once more, with a chapter that includes a funeral, suggesting a tragic shift for the powerful mutant.
All-New X-Men Launches: Solo and Team-Ups
The “Shadows of Tomorrow” ushers in a wave of exciting new titles, giving the spotlight to key mutants and introducing a savage new X-team:
- CYCLOPS #1 (Alex Paknadel & Rogê Antônio): Scott Summers is lost in the wilderness without his visor! He must survive at his most savage when he’s hunted by Donald Pierce and the Reavers.
- ROGUE #1 (Erica Schultz & Luigi Zagaria): Rogue is pulled back to her complicated past, threatening her idyllic life with Gambit. Do Mystique and Destiny hold the answers to the sin she can’t outrun?

- GENERATION X-23 #1 (Jody Houser & Jacopo Camagni): Laura Kinney (Wolverine) and Gabby face a harrowing plot when they encounter a seemingly long-lost friend, uncovering a new generation of deadly X-subjects who follow in Laura’s footsteps!
- INGLORIOUS X-FORCE #1 (Tim Seeley & Michael Sta. Maria): This all-new X-Force team—featuring Hellverine, Archangel, and Boom-Boom—must follow clues from a memory-addled Cable to stop a mysterious assassination!
Marvel also teased a new, yet-to-be-announced X-project from Exceptional X-Men writer Eve L. Ewing, set to launch later next year.
