DC just announced a brand-new, six-issue limited series coming this fall called Batman/Static: Beyond. This is a bold new story under the DC Elseworlds imprint, pairing two iconic, fan-favorite animated heroes for a high-stakes mission.
Written by Evan Narcisse and with art by Nikolas Draper-Ivey, the series brings together Terry McGinnis (Batman Beyond) and Virgil Hawkins (Static). The story begins in November 2025, as the two heroes confront a global crisis. While Terry patrols the futuristic streets of Neo-Gotham, Virgil is busy launching a new clean energy grid in Dakota City. Everything seems to be going smoothly as Earth prepares to join a galactic alliance, but a mysterious villain suddenly causes a worldwide blackout. With technology completely crippled and society on the brink of chaos, Batman and Static must team up to save the world, relying on their wits rather than their gadgets.
Both the writer and artist shared their thoughts on the series. Narcisse mentioned how much he loves the dynamic between Terry and Virgil, and how their different personalities will be key to the story. “Static is a former teen hero who grew up to take on even more responsibility… while Terry is still figuring out how to do those things in his own way,” he said. Their unique approaches to heroics will be put to the test as they are forced to work together.
Draper-Ivey added that the story is a commentary on our reliance on technology and the dangers of becoming too complacent. “I worry that we are getting to a point where if all these things were to be suddenly taken away from us in an instant—at the rate we’re going now, humanity will be at a huge disadvantage,” he explained.
This new series promises to be an emotional and action-packed ride, exploring what happens when two very different heroes have to work together when everything they’ve ever taken for granted falls apart.
