The reign of Doctor Doom is finally ending, but his downfall is far from a clean break. His last-ditch efforts to hold onto power have left the Marvel Universe in a state of chaos, and it’s up to Captain America to pick up the pieces. This December, two new comic issues, ‘The Will of Doom’ #1 and ‘Captain America’ #6, will explore the aftermath and set the stage for a new era.
In the one-shot ‘The Will of Doom’ #1, written by Chip Zdarsky and with art by CAFU, we get our first look at the post-Doom world. While the Fantastic Four are dealing with the immediate fallout, the story introduces a new global threat and hints at unexpected alliances, like with the formidable Red Hulk. This issue is designed to kick off major new storylines across the Marvel Comics universe.
Then, the focus shifts to Captain America in ‘Captain America’ #6. This issue marks a return to the present day for Zdarsky’s run and throws Steve Rogers into a new, high-stakes mission. Latveria, Doctor Doom’s home country, is on the verge of a civil war, and Captain America is tasked with restoring order.
Captain America won’t have it easy. He’ll face a new and dangerous villain named Salvation, who has mysterious ties to Latveria’s past. The conflict will reveal Doctor Doom’s long-hidden secrets, showing how his influence continues even after his rule has ended. As Zdarsky puts it, “A Latveria without Doom in charge is even worse.”
Captain America will also be up against General Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross, also known as Red Hulk. Seeking revenge for his imprisonment during the “One World Under Doom” event, Red Hulk’s presence is a major complication for Captain America’s mission. The groundwork for his involvement will be laid out in ‘The Will of Doom’ #1.
Zdarsky promises that these two comics will forge a new path for the Marvel Universe, driven by one simple truth: “Doom always has a plan.” The future is full of challenges, and it all rests on Captain America’s shoulders.
