Marvel Comics is set to launch a brand-new era for Captain America on July 2nd with the release of ‘Captain America’ #1. The series will be helmed by Eisner-nominated writer Chip Zdarsky (known for his work on ‘Daredevil’) and superstar artist Valerio Schiti (of ‘Avengers’ fame).

The debut issue will kick off with a story set immediately after Steve Rogers’ awakening from his icy slumber, predating his involvement with the Avengers. This pivotal moment in Marvel history will be revisited to unveil significant developments that promise to redefine Captain America’s legacy. Following this initial arc, the series will jump to the present day, where Cap will confront a new threat connected to this previously unseen conflict.

Fans can look forward to a main cover by acclaimed artist Ben Harvey, alongside a variety of variant covers. These include artwork from series artist Schiti (who also designed Cap’s new suit for a special variant), legendary artists Frank Miller and Pablo Villalobos, and even a bold cover by writer Chip Zdarsky himself. Adding to the collection are “Hidden Gem” covers featuring classic John Romita Sr. artwork and a homage to it by Luciano Vecchio, another “Hidden Gem” cover by John Romita Jr., a “Retrovision” cover by Nick Bradshaw, and a “Marvel Rivals” game-inspired cover.

The new series will explore how the world has changed since Captain America was frozen, with battles now fought in the shadows and villains less clearly defined. The initial storyline will see Steve Rogers face a critical decision when a young Victor Von Doom takes control of Latveria: adapt to this new form of warfare or forge his own path. This arc will also reveal the untold story of Captain America’s first encounter with Doctor Doom.

“I’m having a blast,” Zdarsky shared in a recent interview with Newsarama. “I’ve got the same feeling as I did when I started DAREDEVIL, where each issue felt incredibly special, so I hope people feel the same way when they finally get to read it. Our first arc may be set in the past but it’s going to reveal some huge things that will affect the book going forward.”

‘Captain America’ #1 is available for preorder now at your local comic shop.
