Marvel is finally pulling the trigger on a story that feels like it’s been years in the making. While the recent One World Under Doom (2025) event set the stage, Avengers: Armageddon is the moment where everything actually breaks. This five-issue limited series, launching this June, feels like the natural culmination of Chip Zdarsky and his run on Captain America (2025).
If you’ve been following Zdarsky since his Eisner-nominated work on Daredevil (2019), you know he doesn’t play it safe with status quos. He’s joined by the art team of Frank Alpizar and Delio Diaz, who previously crushed the visuals on Doomed 2099 (2025). Together, they are crafting a story that promises to be the biggest pivot point for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes since the iconic Avengers: Disassembled era.

What is the Avengers: Armageddon Story About?
The drama kicks off in a way most of us probably didn’t see coming. Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, better known as the Red Hulk, has officially marched into Latveria and claimed it as his own. Following the lead-up in Wolverine: Weapons of Armageddon (2026), this move sparks a global firestorm, creating a total geopolitical nightmare that forces the Avengers to step in.
The opinion among many fans is that the team has been playing defense for too long, and this conflict seems designed to force them into using a level of power that will forever change how the public perceives them, fundamentally shifting the power structure of the Marvel Universe.
Who is Involved in the Armageddon Event?
The scale of this event is reaching beyond just the core Avengers roster. We are looking at a “colossal gathering” that includes the Fantastic Four, Wolverine, and several other heavy hitters across the Marvel landscape. The solicitation materials are leaning heavily into the idea of “pre-Armageddon” and “post-Armageddon” versions of these characters.
With Dike Ruan providing the main cover art for the first issue, the visual weight of the series is already clear. It looks like the creative team is aiming for a cinematic, high-stakes feel that justifies the “Armageddon” title. If the rumors of a total team relaunch later this year are true, this is the story that will clear the board.
