One of the X-Men’s most battle-hardened leaders is finally striking out on her own. Marvel has announced that Dani Moonstar will headline her very first solo series, Moonstar, arriving this March as part of the new “Shadows of Tomorrow” era.
This five-issue limited series teams up acclaimed writer Ashley Allen (Magik) with rising artistic talent Edoardo Audino (Astonishing X-Men Infinity Comic).
Dani has done it all—she’s led the New Mutants, trained the next generation of X-Men, and ridden with the Valkyries of Asgard. But this new series will test her like never before. The plot centers on Dani tracking down an ancient, soul-sucking weapon that has been unleashed on the world.
It’s a hunt that will require both her mutant gifts and her mystical Valkyrie abilities. However, the physical threat isn’t the only challenge; Dani is also battling her own self-doubt following recent tragedies. She has to decide if she can trust herself enough to save the people she loves, or if her internal struggles will lead to more bloodshed.
Writer Ashley Allen expressed her enthusiasm for diving back into Dani’s world:
“I’m so excited to be returning to tell the next chapter of Dani’s story! She has been such a monumental character in both the Marvel Universe and in people’s lives – exemplifying what it means to be a true leader. I can’t believe this is the character’s first-ever solo series, and I can’t wait to show readers what adventure we have in store for Dani!”
Art and Atmosphere
The series promises a mix of high stakes and personal drama. Artist Edoardo Audino noted that the script has a little bit of everything, including a fresh antagonist for Dani to face.
“Working on the first-ever Dani Moonstar solo series feels great, especially after reading the MAGIK run written by Ashley. In this story, there’s everything I want as a reader—magic, fighting, even a little bit of romance—so getting to draw it is super fun! And on top of that, I got to do one of my favorite things in comics: designing a brand new villain!”
