Aquaman #4 sees our hero swim upstream into a whirlwind of trouble! Jeremy Adams and John Timms deliver assassins, prophecies, and shocking revelations as Aquaman searches for his missing Kingdom. Does he have what it takes, or will he sink under the pressure? Let’s find out!
This issue throws you right back in from Aquaman #3. We get a quick flashback of Aquaman meeting Mera back in the day. This sweet memory crashes hard against his current reality: waking up captive on a space pirate ship, with Lori Lemaris shaking him awake. Writer Jeremy Adams picks up right where we left off – Aquaman’s captured, but he’s already working the angles for an escape. While he’s plotting, Arion and Vivienne finish forging a new weapon for Arthur and shift focus to rescuing him, driven by the prophecy.
Aquaman doesn’t stay put for long, using sharp tactics and his new water powers (including a killer whirlpool) to break free. Adams writes a damn good Aquaman here: innovative, royal, and powerful, putting his hydrokinesis to awesome use! The stakes jump when Arthur scores a sweet new “trident sword” – a perfect fit – and immediately shows he knows how to use it. Then BAM! Cliffhanger. Adams leaves us hanging, but it’s clear he’s steering Aquaman into a seriously fun, high-stakes adventure.

Jeremy Adams’s take on Aquaman is rapidly shaping up to be a fan favorite. Driven by relentless action and complemented by John Timms’s striking visuals, the plot might currently take a backseat, but the execution delivers a thrilling ride from beginning to end, confirming that the character is in capable hands.
This series consistently delivers on its premise: Aquaman, removed from his familiar kingdom, remains the formidable hero readers expect. Even with the odds stacked against him, Arthur carries himself with the steadfast conviction and regal poise befitting his status. The rapid escalation of stakes within just four issues builds significant anticipation for what’s next.
A standout moment in this issue involves Lori’s silent communication—or lack thereof—regarding Arthur’s family and kingdom; it’s a powerful instance where unspoken tension speaks volumes, showcasing skillful storytelling from Adams and team.
John Timms delivers the visual goods! Beautifully rendered scenes pop, characters move with explosive energy, and wait ’til you see the absolutely “outrageous” splash page featuring Aquaman’s killer new weapon!
Though dominated by action, this issue effectively weaves in moments of emotional weight. While the promised confrontation with Lord Dagon still feels distant, the conclusion effectively raises the stakes, promising further escalation in the next installment.

Rex Lokus delivers wonderful colors, giving the art a crisp, bold superhero feel that enhances the bombastic action. His use of blues and purples is prominent but never excessive. Arthur’s new gold weapon effectively catches the eye with its distinct shine and glow, hinting at its power. Dave Sharpe’s lettering adds significant impact – the “CRRASSH” of Arthur’s escape and the massive “CRASSSSHHHHOOOOOM” as he slices the pirate ship in two – pure badassery! Despite all this energy, the story flows well and is easily read.
