The mystery is over! Following Victor Von Doom’s fall, the Marvel Universe has finally revealed its new Sorcerer Supreme: none other than Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch.
This monumental shift in the magical hierarchy will be explored in the new ongoing series, SORCERER SUPREME, launching this December. Wanda is stepping up from being an Avenger and mother to claiming the title of Earth’s primary mystical defender.
A New Era of Magic and Creative Power
SORCERER SUPREME is being written by Steve Orlando, known for his work on SCARLET WITCH (2024), with art by rising star Bernard Chang (BLOOD HUNTERS). The covers will be spellbinding, featuring main covers by fan-favorite artist Leirix.
But that’s not all! Superstar SCARLET WITCH artist Russell Dauterman returns to provide variant covers for the first five issues and has designed a costume befitting Wanda’s new title. These Dauterman variants will showcase members of Wanda’s new advisory council, including Clea, Chthon, and Wiccan, among other magical experts.
A Rebellious Path and a Fiery Rivalry
Wanda’s ascent to the top won’t be easy. She is set to “defy tradition and break every rule” in her new role. The Vishanti, the mystical entities that traditionally appoint the Sorcerer Supreme, will not validate her claim. Instead, they anoint their own candidate: Agatha Harkness. Plus, Wanda finds herself waking up in Limbo, where she must face its ruler, Madelyne Pryor!
Despite the opposition, Wanda is “determined to fulfill her sacred new duty,” expanding her scope and redefining her power to protect the world “like no Sorcerer Supreme ever has!”
Writer Steve Orlando is thrilled about Wanda’s promotion, recognizing her as the perfect fit for this high-stakes position:
“When it comes to the Scarlet Witch…anything’s possible! Those are the works Wanda lives by, and they’re the words we as creators live by too. So, with the Sorcerer Supreme title in the wind after ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM, the question became—who’s the next to wield the cloak and the eye? Artist Bernard Chang shared his excitement, noting, “We are putting our hearts and souls into crafting a new journey for one of Marvel Comics’ most powerful heroes. While this is my first time tackling the wonderful Wanda Maximoff, I look forward to the challenges ahead…”
SORCERER SUPREME #1 arrives in December, along with other magical titles like WICCAN: WITCHES’ ROAD #1 and DOCTOR STRANGE #1, which will feature connecting variant covers by Inhyuk Lee.
