Spider-Man Noir #1 Comic Sets the Stage for Nicolas Cage’s Amazon Series

Marvel has just dropped the new Spider-Man Noir #1 comic, and the timing couldn’t be better. It’s the perfect way for fans to catch up on the character before the live-action Spider-Noir show, starring Nicolas Cage, hits Prime Video in 2026. This new series, written by the legendary Erik Larsen, throws us right back into the gritty, 1930s world of Peter Parker, Private Eye.

The first issue finds Peter in a real slump in 1939. Despite being a famous costumed crime-buster, his life isn’t exactly all peaches and cream. All that globetrotting has left him late on the rent for his office and left him freshly single after a breakup with Mary Jane. The issue opens with a chaotic shootout on the dock against the Scorpion Gang

This version of Spider-Man is different, though: he’s not afraid to use guns, explaining that with the goons armed to the teeth, he’s got to do what he’s got to do. He also takes a moment to vent, pointing out that even though every Spider-Man preaches about “great power and responsibility,” someone has to stick up for the innocent dockworkers the gang killed. Later, he battles a villain called Fliegende Fledermaus, which he charmingly calls a “flying Nazi rat,” at the World’s Fair.

The main detective plot kicks off when Gwen Stacy walks into Peter’s office. She hires Peter to solve the murder of her father, Captain George Stacy, because she believes the police force is corrupt and might even be responsible. Peter takes her retainer (which he desperately needs for his own landlady) and promises to find the killer. However, after sneaking into the morgue for a second look at Captain Stacy’s body, Peter discovers a bombshell: George Stacy was secretly a member of the Scorpion Gang, and the person who killed him was Spider-Man himself.

This new comic run couldn’t be better timed for fans excited about the upcoming Amazon series. The Spider-Noir show, starring Nicolas Cage as an older private eye Spider-Man in the 1930s, is set to premiere in 2026. Marvel is positioning this comic as a great way to brush up on the coolest Spider-Man and get a feel for the dark, crime-ridden world before the highly anticipated show finally airs.

If you’re looking for a moody, action-packed mystery, you can grab Spider-Man Noir #1 now, with the next issue coming in November.
