‘Justice League Unlimited’ #7 Review: Grodd Becomes God?

May 28, 2025

Neil King May 28, 2025

Continuing the “We Are Yesterday” crossover with Batman/Superman: World’s Finest, Justice League Unlimited #7 offers a truly nail-biting experience. Mark Waid continues to show why he’s a master of these iconic heroes, crafting a story that feels both epic in scope and personal for the characters involved. This issue cranks up the tension to eleven as Gorilla Grodd’s sinister plans reach a boiling point, leaving the Justice League scattered and their very headquarters, the Watchtower, under attack.

Waid does a fantastic job of juggling the massive roster of heroes, making sure even in the midst of all the chaos, key characters get their moments to shine. You can really feel the weight of the Legion of Doom’s assault as the League struggles against the unthinkable. The story builds steadily, each page turning with a sense of impending doom, leading to a cliffhanger that might be a tease for Waid’s next project. The surprise reveal of who steps up to call for backup is genuinely intriguing and hints at a truly exciting finale.

Visually, Travis Moore’s artwork is a real treat. His panels are dynamic and full of energy, perfectly capturing the high-stakes action. Moore’s renditions of these familiar heroes are consistently strong and engaging, with a wonderful, colorful, and pulpy comic book shine that’s just a joy to look at. Tamra Bonvillain’s coloring continues to be the glue that holds both Justice League Unlimited and Batman/Superman: World’s Finest together visually, creating a seamless and satisfying crossover experience.

Justice League Unlimited #7 throws some serious curveballs. We see Elongated Man have a classic superhero moment, tricking Grodd into that villainous monologue, only for Luthor to step in and snatch victory away! We also get a clearer picture of the devastating effects of the Legion of Doom’s time guns, with heroes trapped in various past and future points facing seemingly insurmountable odds.

The return of Airwave is an interesting twist, seemingly on a path to redemption, though his initial deception adds a layer of complexity. And in a classic villainous double-cross, Luthor betrays Grodd, though it looks like Lex will be paying for that decision with a nasty scar. The issue culminates in a massive cosmic clash and some serious time shenanigans.
