Marvel is turning the calendar to April with a healthy dose of chaos. This year, the “April Pool’s Day” tradition returns, headlined by a brand-new one-shot: Deadpool: April Pool’s Day #1.
The most exciting news for long-time fans is the return of Gail Simone, the legendary writer behind the 1997 Deadpool run, who is teaming up with artist C.F. Villa. While the holiday usually implies harmless pranks, the stakes for Wade Wilson are surprisingly high this time around.

The premise of the one-shot leans into the ultimate “Boy Who Cried Wolf” scenario. Wade discovers a legitimate, universe-ending calamity on April 1st. The problem? Since it’s April Pool’s Day, nobody believes him. While the rest of the 616 treats the day as a series of gags and tricks, Deadpool is the only one aware that the end of the Marvel Universe is actually on the horizon.
Variant Covers and Extra Content
The celebration extends beyond the single issue. Starting March 25, Marvel will release a series of April Pool’s Day Variant Covers featuring Wade Wilson annoying his fellow heroes. Featured artists include:
- Mark Bagley
- Chad Hardin
- Matteo Lolli
- Phil Noto
- David Baldeón
- Todd Nauck
- Jim Rugg
- Kei Zama (featuring Death’s Head)
Additionally, fans can look forward to a wave of Deadpool-themed merchandise and digital content throughout the month.
Double the Deadpool
If one comic isn’t enough, Marvel is also launching a new solo series, Wade Wilson: Deadpool, by Benjamin Percy and Geoff Shaw. Launching next month as part of the “Shadows of Tomorrow” era, this run promises a darker tone, focusing on Wade’s quest for redemption following a devastating mistake.
