The horror and urban fantasy series Otherkin is finally hitting the home stretch of its initial eight-issue arc. Writer Marco Vito Oddo and artist Victor Costa have spent over a year meticulously laying the groundwork for the protagonist Alex’s journey.
Issue #5 finally pulls back the curtain on the origin of Alex’s volatile shapeshifting powers, revealing the true cost of his transformation. You might recognize Sevilla’s distinct style from her work on graphic novels like A Guide for Ghosts and Helen. It’s a smart collaboration that adds a different aesthetic flavor to the series’ established horror roots.
Digital readers won’t have to choose between them. The digital files for issue five will include all three covers, with the Sevilla and Costa variants tucked into the back of the book as extra pages.
Noah’s Role and the Wizard’s Influence
The story takes a sharp turn into the past as we finally meet Noah, a figure who has haunted the edges of the series since Issue #1. Emerging as a mentor and father figure after Alex’s life-altering accident, Noah’s influence defines the series’ emotional core. However, as their bond fractures, a darker history comes to light: Noah’s past with the enigmatic Wizard is what truly fuels Alex’s hunt for revenge.
