The comic book world is about to witness a monumental reunion as Marvel’s Wall-Crawler and DC’s Man of Steel join forces once again. Following the massive reception of last year’s Deadpool/Batman collaboration, Marvel Comics and DC Comics have officially announced Spider-Man/Superman #1.
Arriving this April, the one-shot special serves as a 50th-anniversary celebration of the legendary 1976 original, Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man. Fans can expect a double-dose of crossover energy this spring, with DC publishing their own separate one-shot, Superman/Spider-Man, in March, followed by the Marvel-led release in April.
The main event features a story by New York Times bestselling author Brad Meltzer and acclaimed artist Pepe Larraz. In this lead tale, Peter Parker and Clark Kent find themselves pitted against their most formidable rivals, Lex Luthor and Norman Osborn. The villains aim to exploit the heroes’ most personal vulnerabilities, forcing the duo to find common ground to survive. This project marks a significant milestone for Meltzer, who shared his excitement for the project.
“I’ve been waiting fifty years to write this book,” Meltzer shared. “Superman and Spider-Man have affected me more than most real people. I carry them with me everywhere — and our story cuts to the core of what it means to be a good person. I’m honored that Nick Lowe and everyone at Marvel even asked. Just wait until you see Pepe’s work. Get your capes and web-shooters ready…”
A Powerhouse Creative Lineup and Anthology Tales
Beyond the lead story, Spider-Man/Superman #1 is packed with an anthology of stories featuring a “who’s who” of industry legends. Dan Slott and Marcos Martin will transport readers to the 1930s for a meeting between Spider-Man Noir and the Golden Age Superman. Meanwhile, Geoff Johns returns to Marvel for the first time in two decades, re-teaming with Gary Frank to bring the Spider and Super families together against Mysterio—though the team-up hints at a deeper, internal threat.
The issue also features high-stakes action from Jason Aaron and Russell Dauterman, who reunite for a tale involving Jane Foster’s Mighty Thor and Wonder Woman as they battle a Symbiote invasion in Metropolis. Additionally, readers can look forward to Louise Simonson and Todd Nauck pitting Steel against the Hobgoblin, while Joe Kelly and Humberto Ramos explore a “campus crossover” featuring Gwen Stacy and Lana Lang. Finally, Brian Michael Bendis makes his grand return to Marvel alongside Sara Pichelli to tell a story starring Miles Morales and Superman.
